Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs)
Q.
What are the different levels and leagues available?
A.
Intramural consists of Pre-K through 3rd Grade. The Travel
Program begins in 4th Grade and is a try-out. Travel players
will be required to attend weekly or bi-weekly practice and play
Saturdays or Sundays on a Home/Away schedule, either in Babylon or in
another Inter-League town. Many times a trainer is hired and it is the
responsibility of the coach to coordinate trainer payments with the
parents. The Intertown Program also begins in 4th grade but
has no try-out. It also includes traveling to other towns.
Q.
When and where are games played?
A.
The Babylon Soccer Club plays a Fall schedule starting in September
followed by a Spring schedule starting in March or April. All
intramural programs, Grades K-3, play on Sundays, and are located at the
Babylon Memorial Grade School field. Grades 4 and up will play a
Home/Away Schedule where the away games are at local area clubs that
also participate in Inter-League Programs.
Q.
How do I register/sign up?
A.
Registration is usually held in June during Trophy Day for existing
members for the following fall season. New members can check specific
dates, times and locations through this web site and they will also be
listed in our club newsletter, which is now available online.
Q.
I moved into the area after the Club's registration dates how do I
register/sign up?
A.
Contact the Club Registrar. Their contact information can be found on
the
Executive Board Contact Page.
Q.
At what age level does your Intramural program start?
A.
The Babylon Soccer Club has an Instructional Pre-K Program. This
program is designed for a child who is no younger than Four or Five
years of age and will be in Kindergarten the following September.
Q.
What do I need to buy?
A.
Shinguards, a water bottle, and cleats are all recommended items. Shin
guards are required for all practices and games for safety reasons. A
water bottle is essential for practices and games. A soccer ball is a
good idea for practices and to practice at home. Any of the local
sporting goods stores will have these supplies.
Intramural Players - Will be given shirts from the Club by the
coach at the beginning of the Fall season.
Inter-League Players-
Will need to purchase a uniform through their coaches.
Q.
I would like to be my child's Coach even though I know little about
soccer.
A.
Many of our coaches have enthusiasm but have never played the game.
Coaching youth soccer, especially the younger age groups 5 to 10 years
of age, does not require a person to have a soccer background, although
it is helpful. The Club does provide clinics and coaches courses and
also tries to pair up coaches with assistants that have knowledge but
cannot make the time commitment. The Club helps out all new coaches by
offering clinics at the beginning of the season and has been offering
the A/B/C Coaching courses to those coaches wishing to learn more.
Q.
I am unable to make a commitment to be a coach, how else can I help?
A.
Many coaches need assistants to help out at practices and at the games.
And even if you are not the Assistant by title you can still lend
assistance to the coach. Help chase down balls during practice. Help
setup or break down the goals during the games. The Club is run by
volunteers and could use your help at one of the many events that occur
during the year; registration/tournaments/photos/etc.
Q.
When/Where and how long is practice?
A.
Practice location and schedule is determined by the coach (that is one
of the benefits of being the coach). The coach, based upon his/her
schedule, will pick a day and time for the team to practice. Generally
at the younger age levels the coach will have one practice a week and
usually it will be the same day and time each week. The school gives the
Club permits with specific times for practice and the coaches need to
work in conjunction with that scheduling. The length of practice is
determined by the coach, but typically runs an hour.
Q.
My son/daughter lost their shirt, socks, shorts, etc. or they outgrew
their uniform. How can I get another one?
A.
Uniform purchases and/or exchanges are handled through our club uniform
coordinator. His contact information can be found on the
Executive Board
Contact Page. Uniforms can also be purchased at
registration, which is usually held during the spring season.
